On the occasion of the second VRHAM! Festival we also present the VRHAMMY Awards, chosen by an international jury. We would like to thank ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius for their kind support.
And your opinion counts, too: The VRHAM! People’s Choice Award, supported by NORDAKADEMIE Stiftung, will be presented at the great VRHAM!Bye closing party on 15 June 2019.
VRHAM! presents its own awards: three curators from Montreal, Paris, and Munich choose the best VR experience and the Hamburg Emerging Artist.
Winners of the VRHAMMY for the best experience in the main program: Kelsey Boncato and Daniel Oldham for THE FOREST.
THE FOREST leads the user into a wonder world of hand-drawn 2D animations that leave room for association and exploration. Nothing is told, everything has to be discovered. With the help of our arms we move through an imaginary world full of trunks, leaves, lianas and roots, accompanied by wonderful music. The meditative effect of one’s own movements in connection with sound design and depictions of nature is overwhelming and lastingly impressive. Multimedia artist Kelsey Boncato and composer and sound designer Daniel Oldham immediately succeed with their first VR work, to create a unique experience with a high level of immersion, executed with artistic excellency.
Winner of the HAMBURG EMERGING ARTISTS AWARD: Nico Chibac for THE GATE.
THE GATE was done in 4 months! It is very hard to believe when you get literally sucked into this awesome experience of witnessing first hand the wonders of our world from the outer bounds of our universe to the engineering of our DNA. It is done with remarkable craftsmanship, perfection in hyper realistic visual details, truly convincing interaction. This is a must see for everyone and destined for a significant commercial success by Spice VR, an outstanding Hamburg group of makers of international class.

How to rate VR art? Which criteria can be applied? Which is the “best” VR experience? And what is “good” anyway? Our international jury tries to find answers to these questions.
Which experience did you like best? Vote for your favourite every day at the festival.
