Lilian Hess (VRHAM!) with Artists Carl Emil Carlsen and Olivia Mc Gilchrist
With the kind support of the Québec Government Office in Germany
How does an artistic vision take shape, and what thoughts lie behind the works on display?
In Meet the Artist, we guide visitors through the exhibition together with the participating artists, offering personal insights into their ideas, working processes, and the stories behind their pieces. It’s an opportunity to ask questions and gain direct access to artistic perspectives.
A format for anyone curious to experience art firsthand—beyond traditional art education formats.
Danish artist and designer Carl Emil Carlsen’s VR experience Intangible investigates the oddly satisfying sensation of interacting with simulations of natural phenomena while calling attention to the controversial idea of reconnecting with nature through computational means. Each encounter with artificial nature turns into a digital sculpture accompanied by a soundscape by Anna Fišere.
The virtual reality experience Virtual ISLANDs by French-Jamaican artist Olivia Mc Gilchrist invites audiences to experience VR as a fluid and transformative space. Inspired by the artist’s dual Caribbean and European heritage, the work highlights the relation between water and the fluidity of hybrid identities. Within this immersive journey, audiences are submerged in an underwater environment, following the particle-traced movements of aerial performer Keely Whitelaw which evokes a profound sense of weightlessness.
